MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- K.J. Lawson had 12 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, and Memphis pulled away early in the second half to beat East Carolina 57-50 on Saturday.
Jimario Rivers scored 15 points to lead Memphis (16-6, 6-3 American), which bounced back from a 77-66 loss at Temple on Wednesday night, and have won four of five. Dedric Lawson grabbed 14 rebounds and chipped in eight points.
Kentrell Barkley and Jeremy Sheppard scored 13 points apiece to lead East Carolina (10-12, 2-7).
The game was tied at 30 with about 15 minutes to go. The Tigers used a 22-10 spurt for their largest lead, 52-40, with 5:21 remaining. East Carolina pulled within seven but didn't get closer.
Both teams shot poorly. Memphis was 20 of 66 (30.3 percent) while the Pirates finished 18 of 55 (32.7 percent), but the Tigers outrebounded East Carolina 52-40.

- ECU took its largest lead of the game following a 9-1 run to take a 20-11 lead with 3:27 remaining in the first half.
- Memphis outscored East Carolina 16-8 in the first 5:27 of the second half to turn a three-point halftime deficit into a five-point lead, 35-30.
- Following a layup by Caleb White, Memphis scored six unanswered capped by consecutive dunks from the Lawson brothers for a 41-32 lead.
- East Carolina pulled within five, 43-38, with 8:48 to play before the Tigers spurted out to a 12-point cushion, 52-40, in a span of 3:27 and never let their lead slip below seven the remainder of the game.

- Barkley posted his second straight double-double and his fifth of the season. He was the Pirates' leading scorer for the third consecutive game and eighth time in the last 10 contests.
- Andre Washington became the sixth player in program history to block 60 shots in a season and moved into fourth-place on the school's single-season chart with xx. It was the seventh time this year he blocked five or more shots in a game.
- Michel Nzege scored a season-high nine points on 4-of-7 shooting, completing an old fashion three-point play.
- East Carolina lost for the first time this season when leading at halftime (10-1).
- The Pirates scored double digit fast break points (10) for the first time since Dec. 22 against Presbyterian (13). It was also the first time they scored 30 points in the paint since that same night.
- East Carolina shot a season-low 11.8 percent from outside the arc (2-17).
- The Pirates held Memphis to its lowest scoring half of the season in the first 20 minutes, yielding just 19 points.
- Memphis' 52 rebounds equaled the most allowed by the Pirates this season. SMU also had 52 boards against ECU on New Year's Ever.
- ECU freshman Raquan Wilkins didn't play due to a virus.
