Sirk And Cash Named September Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Graduate student quarterback Thomas Sirk of the football program and junior forward Courtney Cash of the women's soccer team have been selected the male and female Student-Athletes of the Month following an outstanding September athletically.

Named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy, Sirk led the Pirates to their first victory of the season in a 41-38 decision at UConn Sept. 24. For his efforts, he was tabbed the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after completing 30 of 39 passes for a career-high 426 yards and three touchdowns against the Huskies. Sirk also racked up 398 total yards and four touchdowns against then No. 18 USF Sept. 30.

Cash was selected the AAC Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 18 after scoring two goals and recording an assist in a 3-0 victory over UNCW. She also posted the game-tying goal against then No. 5 Virginia in a 1-1 draw that earned her Hero Sports National Player of the Week accolades.
