
Pettersson Closes Out Season With 79 At Athens Regional

ATHENS, Ga. – East Carolina junior Lisa Pettersson closed out the 2017 season taking a share of 50th place at the NCAA Women's Golf Athens Regional Tuesday afternoon, which was being held at the par-72, 6.344-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
Pettersson, who is the fourth Pirate individual to participate in NCAA Regional play, carded a final round 7-over par 79 for a three-day tournament score of 227 (11-over). The Taby, Sweden native collected eight pars, three birdies (holes 5, 12 and 14), five bogeys, one double bogey and one triple bogey on the afternoon dropping 20 spots in the standings into a tie for 50th (227/11-over).
Third-ranked Alabama (857/7-under) claimed top regional honors posting a final round 284 to advance to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, which will be held May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Joining the third-ranked Crimson Tide at the NCAA Championships from the Athens Regional are, in order of finish, No. 11 Northwestern (871), Michigan State (872), No. 19 Baylor (877), No. 39 Clemson (884), and No. 35 North Carolina (886).
Individually Jennifer Kupcho (Wake Forest) won the individual title with a 4-under par 68 and finished with a three-day score of 206 (10-under) and five shots ahead of Cheyenne Knight (Alabama). The first place showing punched her ticket to nationals where she finished tied for sixth a year ago. Also advancing to nationals are Laura Fuenfstueck (College of Charleston) and Maya Walton (Princeton).
