November 16, 2018 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU junior defensive tackle Alex Turner has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 3 First-Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for the second consecutive year the organization announced Thursday.
Â
A dual major in multidisciplinary studies and psychology, Turner sports a 3.57 cumulative GPA and is a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and a four-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll selection.
Â
On the season, Turner has started all nine games tallying 42 tackles (17 solo) to go along with four sacks and 9.5 TFLs. The Houston, Texas native stands among the AAC leaders in TFLs (t10th/1.00) and sacks (17th/0.44) per game and has registered at least a half TFL in eight of nine contests. He has booked at least five tackles in five games this year (multiple seven times), which included a career-best eight (three solo) at Temple.
Â
To be eligible for the Academic All-District Football Team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. No student-athlete is eligible until he has completed one full calendar year at his current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, where first- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
