Galissia Cause Secures Bid To NCAA Outdoor Championships

TAMPA, Fla. – Already the school record holder in the women's outdoor shot put, senior Galissia Cause added another milestone to her decorated career Thursday, finishing eighth in the event at the NCAA East Preliminary to claim a berth into the NCAA Outdoor Championships later in June.

Cause notched a mark of 16.58 meters – good for her second-best showing of the season. The appearance in the national meet will be the first in her career and the first for the program since Avion Jones qualified in the high jump in 2016.

Two-time American Athletic Conference outdoor 800m champion and senior Stefano Migliorati kept his season alive as well, moving on to the national quarterfinals by crossing the finish line in 1:49.33. He was fifth in his flight but had one of the best non-automatic qualifying times in the field to cement his advancement to Friday.

Juniors Courtney Warner and Ryan Davis also competed Thursday. Warner placed 35th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.56 while Davis was 41st in the hammer throw and tallied a mark of 57.39 meters.

Friday will see seven Pirates vie for spots at the national meet, beginning with freshman Sommer Knight participating in the pole vault at 9:30 a.m.
