November 14, 2019 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina senior defensive tackle Alex Turner has been named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First-Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for the third consecutive year the organization announced Thursday.
A dual major in multidisciplinary studies and psychology, Turner sports a 3.61 cumulative GPA and is a two-time National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy semifinalist, three-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and a six-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll selection.
On the field, Turner has started all 10 games tallying 47 tackles (23 solo) to go along with three sacks and 10.5 TFLs this season. The Houston, Texas native stands among the AAC leaders in TFLs (t8th/1.05 pg), tackles per game (49th/4.7 tpg) and has registered at least a half TFL in eight of 10 contests. He has booked at least four tackles in seven outings in 2019 (multiple nine times), which included a season-high seven on three occasions (NC State, Gardner-Webb and UCF).
To be eligible for the Academic All-District Football Team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. No student-athlete is eligible until he has completed one full calendar year at his current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, where first- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
