March 22, 2019 | Women's Tennis
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The winning streak continued as the ECU women's tennis team beat George Washington 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
"We got through another one," said head coach Tom Morris. "The girls played hard. That's been the focus of the year. We're a talented team but we're really battling hard every time. Good things happen when we do that. I thought we played well through the doubles and that continued through the singles. George Washington is a good program. Today's match was a very good win for us."
ECU (16-2) won its 16 straight match and its fourth straight on the road since dropping the first two matches of the year. George Washington (6-6) drops to .500 after losing its second straight match.
The Pirates relied on its top two teams in doubles as ECU dropped just a single game between courts one and two. Celia Ruiz and Minette Van Vreden got their tenth win as a partnership after beating Katarina Marinkovokj and Sara Grubac 6-0 at No. 2. The point was clinched when Lisa Hofbauer and Alisa Diercksen topped Victoria Kogan and Melis Bayraktaroglu 6-1 on the top court.
ECU got its second point of the match when Diercksen beat Bayraktaroglu 6-2, 6-3 on court three. The Pirates got one point away from clinching when Nastja Rettich beat Victoria Kogan 6-2, 6-2 on court six. It was the 11th straight win for Diercksen and the ninth in a row for Rettich.
