ECU Ranked No. 49 By ITA

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Riding a 12-match winning streak, the ECU women's tennis team entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) team rankings at No. 49.

"It's a little different place for us," said head coach Tom Morris. "It's a credit to the girls for working as hard as they have and putting the effort in. It's something they deserve and we're happy where we are right now. With nearly 400 Division I teams competing, it's a pretty big accomplishment for our program to move into the top 50."

The No. 49 ranking for the Pirates is the first time in program history that ECU has been ranked inside the top-50 by the ITA.

ECU (12-2) started the season with consecutive losses to NC State and North Carolina, teams that are currently ranked No. 11 and No. 1 in the ITA's poll. However, since then the Pirates have been unbeatable. Included in those 12 victories are wins over conference opponents Tulane and Memphis as well as six straight 7-0 victories.

The Pirates are one of four American teams ranked in the ITA's top-50. UCF leads the way at No. 27 while Wichita State is No. 40. Tulsa is just two spots ahead of ECU at No. 47.

ECU will have 10 days between matches. The Pirates will return to action on Thursday, March 14 with a home match against Charlotte.
