April 08, 2019 | General
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Sophomore Jake Kuchmaner of the baseball team and freshman Anna Bristle of the track and field program have been selected the Student-Athletes of the Month for March following an outstanding month of achievement.
Â
Kuchmaner was named American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week as well as one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week twice during the month (March 11 and 18). He was one out away from a no hitter in the Pirates' 3-2 victory over then No. 9 Ole Miss March 6 before twirling the first perfect game in program history as ECU completed the sweep of Maryland on the road in a 3-0 decision. Kuchmaner went 5-1 with a 1.80 earned run average and 34 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched during March. He currently leads the American Athletic Conference in opposing batting average (.128) and is second in ERA (1.99).
Â
Bristle enjoyed a productive March during which she set the program record in the 10,000-meter run and helped break another school record in the 4x1500 relay at the Raleigh Relays. She turned in the third-fastest time in program history in the 3,000-meter run at the Charlotte 49er Classic and is the current AAC leader in the 5,000m.
Â
Kuchmaner and Bristle have combined to complete 58 hours of community service during the 2018-19 academic year.
