
ECU Closes AAC Outdoor Championships With Pair Of Podium Finishes

WICHITA, Kan. – The AAC Outdoor Championships came to a close late Sunday night as East Carolina posted a pair of all-conference performances at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.
The women finished in eighth place as a team with 52 points – just one behind Tulsa – while the men took ninth place with 23.75 points.
Senior Kourtney Edwards-Campbell, who finished in 11th place in the discus a year ago, improved all the way to third place with a mark of 50.02 meters to claim the bronze medal.
Another strong event for the Pirates was the 100m hurdles. Sophomore Alyssa Sandy won the silver medal by turning in a time of 13.70 while classmate Brooke Stith ended up in fourth place with a time of 13.85. Junior Naomi Whitaker also scored points for ECU with a seventh-place finish in the event, clocking in at 14.22.
Sophomore Blake Mathews found the scoresheet in the high jump, placing sixth at 2.05 meters. Stith added an eight-place finish in the triple jump (12.51m) and sophomore Tavia Ranger claimed sixth in the discus with a toss of 47.06 meters. Additionally, junior Joe Talbert contributed a seventh-place result in the pole vault (4.71m) while junior Neil Blanken was also seventh in the discus (49.82m).
Back on the track, junior Nuria Tillo-Prats finished sixth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:33.44. Sophomore Shellbi Chapman was eighth in the finals of 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:11.04. Wrapping up the scoring for East Carolina was senior Grace Sullivan who slotted sixth in the 5000-meter run in a time of 17:03.42.
The Pirates now turn their attention to the NCAA East Preliminary which is scheduled for May 23-25 in Jacksonville, Fla.
