
Track And Field Qualifies Eight For NCAA East Preliminary

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track and field program will send eight athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary competition scheduled for May 23-25 in Jacksonville, Fla. The field was announced by the organization Thursday afternoon.

Senior Grace Sullivan, the school-record holder in the Steeplechase, enters the regional with a No. 12 ranking. She ran her season-best time of 10:12.62 at the Bill Carson Invitational before finishing second at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships to earn all-conference honors. Sullivan is making her second consecutive appearance at the preliminary.

Sophomore Sommer Knight is 19th in the region in the pole vault with a season-best effort of 4.15 meters. She achieved that mark at the Duke Invitational. Knight finished one spot out of advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season, placing 13th in the regional in Tampa.

In addition to Sullivan, senior Hakeem Horton (2nd/long jump), sophomore Alyssa Sandy (2nd/100-meter hurdles) and senior Kourtney Edwards-Campbell (3rd/discus) earned all-conference accolades at the league meet.

The top 12 finishers in each preliminary event from each region advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, scheduled for June 5-8 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
