LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tyler Fitzgerald led six Cardinals with multiple hits going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and four runs scored as No. 7 Louisville took game one of the best of three Super Regional series over No. 10 ECU 14-1 Friday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium. With the win the Cardinals improve to 48-16 over and are one game away from advancing to the 2019 Men's College World series, while the Pirates fall to 47-17 on the year.

In a scoreless tie with one out in the bottom of the fourth, Louisville erupted for four runs on five hits to take a 4-0 advantage. Logan Wyatt and Fitzgerald roped consecutive doubles for a 1-0 lead before Danny Oriente's bases loaded double down the right field line scored three to highlight the frame.

Reid Detmers (12-4) earned the win allowing one run (earned) on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in seven inning. Garrett Schmeltz closed out the contest tossing two scoreless frames with three punch outs and allowed two hits.

Jake Agnos (11-3) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs (all earned) on five hits with a walk and five punch outs in four frames. The lefty struck out Lucas Dunn to start the contest setting a new American Athletic Conference career record for strikeouts (295 total), which was previously held by Houston's Seth Romero. The Pirates used six arms in relief getting outings from Zach Barnes (0.0 IP, 3 Rs), Ryder Giles (0.1 IP, 2 Rs), Garrett Saylor (0.2 IP, 0 Rs), Evan Odum (1.1 IP, 5 Rs), Carter Spivey (0.2, 0 Rs) and Connor Norby (1.0 IP).

The Cardinals scored five runs in the fifth extending their lead to 9- after sending 11 men to the plate. Fitzgerald plated the first run with a single to right and two batters later Jake Snider doubled down the left field line scoring a pair. Drew Campbell's RBI fielder's choice pushed across Snider and the last run came in on Justin Lavey's single through the left side.

ECU finally got on the board in the sixth thanks to Spencer Brickhouse's 14th home run of the year, a solo shot to right field off of Detmers. But Louisville responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame and two more in the seventh to cap the scoring at 14-1.

Brickhouse led the Pirates offense going 2-for-4 with a home run, while five others collected a hit. Alec Burleson extended his hit streak to a career-high 10 games with his two-out double in the first inning.

The Pirates and Cardinals will return to the diamond on Saturday, June 8 for game two of the series with a first pitch now scheduled for 12 Noon (ET) due to potential rain in the area. The contest will be aired on ESPNU.
