East Carolina Alters Opening Weekend Schedule
August 29, 2019 | Volleyball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Instead of beginning its 2019 season at the Puerto Rico Clasico this weekend, the East Carolina volleyball team will now travel to George Mason University Sunday for a pair of matches against the host Patriots (11 a.m.) and Providence Friars (2 p.m.).
Â
The Pirates were to face off with Providence, George Mason and Evansville down in the Caribbean, but the potential impact of Hurricane Dorian forced the tournament's cancellation.
East Carolina returns a bevy of experience to the 2019 roster, retaining all but one starter. The Pirates also welcome back the school's single-match and single-season digs record holder in redshirt junior libero Brandee Markwith who missed the entirety of 2018 due to injury.
Â
Julie Torbett begins her seventh season at the helm of the program owning not only the most wins of any ECU volleyball head coach but also the second-highest victory total among her peers in the American Athletic Conference.
