GREENVILLE, N.C. – For the second-straight year, East Carolina track and field assistant coach Brie Berkowitz has been selected to serve as a mentor in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Female Coaches Mentorship program.
Â
"It is truly an honor to be selected as one of the mentors for the USTFCCCA Female Coaches Mentorship program," Berkowitz said. "I am extremely appreciative to have been surrounded by such positive mentors in my life, and I strive to emulate those impactful qualities. It is my goal each and every day to set positive examples and help others to achieve their goals. We, as coaches, are constantly striving to positively impact our student-athletes in ways on and off the track. This program has given me the opportunity to develop relationships with very talented and successful female coaches and has enabled me to grow both personally and professionally. I had such a rewarding experience the first year with this program, and I am very excited to begin the second year and develop new relationships."
Â
The program is designed to increase the representation, depth of knowledge and advancement of female coaches in the field of NCAA cross country and track and field coaching in positions at every level: volunteer, paid-assistant, paid-part-time assistant, paid-full-time assistant, paid-head coach at divisions I, II, III, NAIA and female coaches who continue to coach post-collegiate athletes as well as create accessibility to female leaders within the industry.
Â
Mentees in the program experience direct benefits of mentorship and career guidance within a space allowing room for holistic self-reflection in an emotionally-supported environment.
Â
"We are very fortunate to have someone like Coach Brie to represent the East Carolina University Athletic Department in this role," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft stated. "She is truly a role model for all student-athletes and a positive influence in so many ways both on and off the track."
Â
An East Carolina University alumna and a former track and field standout for the Pirates from 2003-2007, Berkowitz enters her seventh season as an assistant coach at ECU after joining the staff in August 2012. Berkowitz supervises the Pirate pole vaulters and assists in all aspects of the program.
Â
Berkowitz has been part of two conference championship teams at ECU, helping the Pirate women to the 2014 Conference USA indoor and outdoor titles.
