GREENVILLE, N.C. — After enjoying a successful semester in the classroom as well as in the pool, the East Carolina men's and women's swimming teams have both been named Scholar All-America Teams as selected by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America for the Fall of 2019, the committee announced Wednesday.
Teams must have accumulated at least a 3.0 team grade point average for the Fall of 2019 and represent a total 17,685 student-athletes from both the women's and men's teams.
The Pirates finished the fall semester with a 3.61 team GPA on the women's side, which ranked highest among American Athletic Conference programs and 23rd among NCAA Division I institutions. The also matched Duke for the highest team GPA by a North Carolina-based Division I school.
The men's team boasted a 3.16 GPA during the fall semester.
"The CSCAA Scholar All-America list is a great marker for academic success and provides a benchmark for teams to strive for," explained CSCAA Board of Directors member and ECU alumni McGee Moody.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
