East Carolina Signs Three For 2021-22 Season

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Laila Acox, Iycez Adams and Paige Lyons have signed national letters of intent to attend East Carolina University and compete for the women's basketball team beginning in the fall of 2021, according to an announcement Thursday by second-year head coach Kim McNeill.

"We are very excited to announce the signing of these three young ladies to our basketball program," McNeill said. "They will not only contribute at a high level on the court, but also in the classroom."

Laila Acox, 6-0, Forward, Blythewood, S.C. (Ridge View High School)

Rated the No. 1 recruit in the state of South Carolina by A1 Sports and SC Southern Hoops.
Surpassed the 1,000-point mark as a junior, finishing the year averaging 16.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game with 14 double-doubles.
Tabbed to the 2019-20 SCHSL 3-4 All-Region and All-State Teams as well as the HSSR 3-4 All-State Team as a sophomore and junior.
Named Ridge View High School's Most Valuable Player, Best Rebounder and Best Scorer both her sophomore and junior years.
Averaged 14.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per contest with 17 double-doubles in 2018-19.
One of Midlands 60 Players to Watch as a sophomore.
Earned the In the Paint team award her freshman campaign after putting up 11.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game and tallying nine double-doubles.

Iycez Adams, 5-11, Forward, Kernersville, N.C. (Quality Education Academy)

Ranked No. 2 on the 2021 Top 30 Triad players list (Reign Scouting).
Spent her first two seasons of high school attending Wesleyan Christian Academy before transferring to Glenn High School before her junior year.
As a freshman, helped Wesleyan Christian Academy to a 27-5 record and the NCISAA 3A state championship while averaging eight points and 10 rebounds per game.
Earned all-conference and all-state honors as a freshman and sophomore.
One of five Glenn High School players to receiver all-conference recognition in 2019-20 as she averaged 14.7 points and 12.2 rebounds per contest.
Helped Glenn capture the 2019-20 Central Piedmont Conference regular season and tournament titles as well as the Mary Garner Tournament championship.

McNeill on Adams: "Icyez was the first kid to commit to us in this class. She is versatile and able to score in so many ways, whether it be from the perimeter or with her back to the basket. Icyez is a hard-nosed, tough athlete who is willing to do whatever is asked for the betterment of the team."

Paige Lyons, 5-7, Guard, Norcross, Ga. (Wesleyan School)

Helped pace Wesleyan School to the state title as a freshman, averaging 10 points and three assists per game.
Averaged 14 points per game her sophomore campaign, leading the Wolves to the state championship game.
Earned all-county honors from the Daily Post and the Gwinnett Tipoff Club, as well as all-state honors from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association at the conclusion of her junior season that saw Wesleyan School reach the final four of the state tournament.
Averaged 13.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals as a junior.

McNeill on Lyons: "Paige is an athletic point guard who comes to us from a great high school basketball program. She is a great leader who will be able to push tempo and score for us as needed."
