Men's Golf Says Farewell To Senior Class

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The end of the 2020 spring semester marks the conclusion of the career of three of the four members of the East Carolina men's golf team senior class: Chris Akers, Logan Shuping and Blake Taylor. Each member of the trio will receive his undergraduate degree and has elected to forego his extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Patrick Stephenson, the fourth member of the senior class, completed his undergraduate requirements during the 2019 fall semester and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and has decided to return for a fifth year.
"Chris, Logan, Patrick and Blake all came to ECU together and have meant so much to our golf program and I would be remised if I didn't publicly say thank you and congratulations," ECU head coach Andrew Sapp said. "We're so very proud of each of them and wish them all the best as they move into their next stage of life.
"We will miss Blake, Chris and Logan and their passion and love for ECU, the game of golf and their teammates, but we are excited that Patrick will be coming back to play next year while he completes his postgraduate degree."
Akers will be graduating with a bachelor's degree in finance as will Shuping, who will also receive a degree in marketing.
Taylor, a two-time all-conference and all-conference academic team performer, will be graduating with a degree in recreation and park management. He completes his career second behind current PGA Tour member Harold Varner III (72.28) on the school's all-time scoring average list with 72.67 strokes per round. Taylor is also one of only eight players with 10 or more top 10 career finishes in ECU history.
