November 12, 2021 | Baseball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina Hall of Famer and former All-America pitcher Sam Narron has been promoted to pitching coordinator for the Washington Nationals the organization announced earlier this week.
Â
Narron, who has been a minor league pitching coach with the Nationals since 2012, split time this past season as pitching coach for Class AA Harrisburg Senators and the big league club. For the final six weeks of the season, he helped in Washington's bullpen.
Â
The Goldsboro, N.C. native and 2019 hall of fame inductee pitched three seasons for the Pirates before leaving school early to pursue a professional baseball career. He compiled a 26-7 record with a 2.75 ERA in 45 appearances, finishing seventh all-time in wins at ECU. As a sophomore, he matched the ECU single-season record for victories with 12 and was named First-Team All-Colonial Athletic Association as well as Third-Team All-America and All-East Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The following season he garnered Second-Team All-Conference USA honors and became just one of three players in program history to earn all-conference honors in two different leagues. Off the field, he was a two-time CoSIDA All-American selection.
