Two East Carolina University graduates have returned to the Pirates' athletics department as Drew Moeller was named assistant athletics director for development and Coleman Spain was hired as executive director of ticket operations.Â
Â
"We are pleased to welcome Drew Moeller and Coleman Spain back into the Pirate Family," ECU Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert said. "Both Drew and Coleman bring valuable experience at several different universities to our department and we are excited to bring on board such talented individuals. Most importantly, they both understand the passion of Pirate Nation and wanted to be a part of what we are building here."
Â
Moeller spent the last two years at the University of Pittsburgh where he served as assistant athletics director for annual giving, a position he accepted in 2019. From 2013 until his departure to Pitt, Moeller worked in a variety of roles in the Pirate Club.
Â
"I am incredibly excited to be returning home to Greenville to rejoin the ECU family," Moeller said. "It is an honor to serve our student-athletes and provide them the resources for a world-class student-athlete experience here at East Carolina. My family and I are truly grateful for the opportunity and look forward to reconnecting with the many proud alums, donors and fans of ECU Athletics."            Â
Â
During his time at Pitt, Moeller was responsible for coordinating all annual giving activities and developing an annual strategy to drive philanthropic donations for the Panther Club. In addition to leading athletics planning for the school's annual Pitt Day of Giving that resulted in a 140 percent increase in donor participation, he most recently launched a new Student-Athlete Success Fund that ultimately produced a 145 percent rise in unrestricted funds.
Â
Moeller initially joined the Pirate Club as assistant director of development in 2013 before earning a promotion to associate director status two years later. While managing a portfolio of over 350 donors in 12 regional chapters, he also assisted with season ticket and parking benefit fulfillment through the Paciolan platform and was responsible for many elements of the members' game day hospitality services.
Â
A 2011 graduate of Appalachian State University, Moeller earned a bachelor's degree in advertising before following with a M.B.A. (and sport management certification) from East Carolina in 2020. He is also a member of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). He was an intern with the Wolfpack Club from 2012-13 at North Carolina State University.Â
Â
The Raleigh native is married to the former Kalyn Kaminski.
Â
A native of Greenville, Spain is rejoining the Pirate Family after spending the last seven years working in collegiate athletics. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and M.B.A. (and sport management certification) from East Carolina in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a two-time College of Business Scholarship recipient.
Â
"It's exciting to be home again and have the opportunity the serve Pirate Nation," Spain said. "This is a dream come true for me personally and professionally. I am encouraged by the growth of East Carolina, especially athletics, and look forward to playing a role in our success moving forward."
Â
Before his move back to Greenville, Spain served as assistant director of ticket operations at UC Berkeley since 2017 where he was the primary supervisor for men's basketball ticket operations and fulfilled the parking allocations for football and men's basketball.
Â
Spain also served as a ticket office assistant at Maryland where he was the primary supervisor for baseball and women's soccer prior to his move to the West Coast. In addition, he assisted the processing of Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund donations.
