
Ryan Davis To Compete At USA Olympic Trials

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Ryan Davis will attempt to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games in the hammer throw Friday when he takes on the nation's elite at the USA Olympic Trials inside historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The competition is slated to begin at 3:05 p.m. ET.

Davis is the first ECU athlete to take part in the trials since Avion Jones represented the Pirates in the high jump in 2016. That same year, former East Carolina standout sprinter Lashawn Merritt anchored the American 4x400 relay squad to the gold medal in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, while also capturing bronze in the 400m.

Last week, Davis participated in the NCAA Outdoor Championships where he placed 18th in the hammer with a mark of 68.79 meters to earn honorable mention All-America accolades. His decorated career includes an indoor All-America selection in 2020 as well as the 2021 American Athletic Conference discus and hammer titles. Davis is the school record holder in the weight throw, discus and hammer.
