Pirate Nation:
Â
Thank you for showing up and making a difference in our first six football home games. You made your presence known each Saturday from the opening kick and we are thankful for your support.
Â
The Pirates are riding a two-game win streak and are headed on the road for back-to-back games against BYU and Cincinnati.
Â
We are guaranteed one more opportunity at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in 2022 and November 19 takes on extra significance. Yes, it is a conference game against Houston, but it is also about honoring our senior class who have a final chance to play in front of Pirate Nation.
Â
This class holds a special place in my heart, and I hope you feel the same. In December 2019, amid a coaching change, numerous young men had a decision to make.
Â
Change can be difficult and some would opt for a new home, but many stayed with a sole focus of restoring the prominence of ECU Football. I look around the lockerroom at our senior student-athletes and they all made a choice to stay and help rebuild this storied program.
Â
Numerous others have joined along the way to build a program we can all be proud of. They are Pirates for life.
Â
Work is still to be done, but there is no doubt we are on the right path.
Â
It has been a challenging journey with our share of adversity along the way. You can't write the story on this senior class without understanding the effects the COVID-19 pandemic had on all our student-athletes. Nothing was normal and this group stuck together through it all.
Â
These men never wavered in their commitment to ECU and now are fighting to end their career with back-to-back bowl trips.
Â
We are calling on Pirate Nation to give this group a sendoff to remember on November 19 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium against Houston.
Â
It will be special for these young men to make a final walk through a sea of Purple and Gold on the Pirate Walk, run through the tunnel with Purple Haze blaring from the speakers, and have the opportunity to play in front of a fan base that has been loyal and committed to them the last four years.
Â
We are offering a special discount on tickets with hopes we have an atmosphere that these young men will remember the rest of their lives. They deserve nothing less.
Â
I ask all of you to spread the word throughout Pirate Nation.
Â
Let's join forces and get Rowdy in Dowdy for a final time in 2022.
