Pirates Open Season at Cougar Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina University women's golf team will begin its 2022-23 season on Monday, Sept. 12, at the Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. The two-day event will be held at the par-71, 6,269-yard Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, S.C.
Fourth-year head coach CC Buford welcomes back five returners to the roster in seniors Oda Sofie Kilsti and Caroline Hermes as well as the sophomore trio of Macie Burcham, Andrea Miralles Llopis and Grayson Warren. They are joined by newcomers Marta Perez (Madrid, Spain) and Danielle Modder (Aschaffenburg, Germany). The Pirates will tee off Monday with a lineup of Miralles, Perez, Modder, Kilsti and Warren.
"We are eager to get the season started," Buford said. "We had some great rounds of qualifying near the end of our first couple weeks of the season and I am confident that will reflect our performance this week. We've put a lot of effort into our preparation for the Cougar Classic, it's a course Jodee (Tindal) and I know very well and I am hopeful to turn some heads this week as we take on some of the best teams in the country."

The Pirates are looking to build off a strong 2021-22 campaign that saw the team finish in the top five in multiple tournaments, highlighted by a fourth consecutive Pirate Collegiate Classic title in the fall.
The tournament features 16 teams that will join ECU and host CofC, including Florida State, Clemson, UCF, Furman, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, North Carolina, NC State, Penn State, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday (36 holes of continuous play) followed by an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday (18 holes). Fans can get updated scoring throughout the tournament by visiting here.
