GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team travels to Wichita, Kan. for a tilt with the Wichita State Shockers on Saturday at 3 p.m. (EST) in Charles Koch Arena.
Last Time Out
The Pirates bounced back with a victory over Cincinnati, using a 9-2 fourth-quarter run to pull away for a 61-53 final margin. Danae McNeal had another strong day with 18 points, six steals and three blocks while Amiya Joyner nabbed another double-double with 18 and 10 rebounds. Micah Dennis also had a strong day running the point with 12 points and three assists and only one turnover. As a team, the Pirates forced 33 turnovers on the day leading to 30 points off turnovers and 16 points on the fast break.
Scouting the Shockers
Wichita State had a shaky start to conference play, dropping four straight after an opening win over Cincinnati, but bounced back Wednesday with a big win at home over SMU. The Shockers are 12-7 on the season but are 8-2 in Charles Koch Arena so far on the season.
The Shockers are led in scoring by DJ McCarty with 12.8 points per game to go with a team-best 65 assists, while Jane Asinde is putting up a remarkable line of 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Asinde and McCarty don't do it alone, far from it, as Trajata Colber also averages 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds.
Series History
The series history between the Pirates and Shockers is short with only eight games going back to 2018. At 4-4 overall, the Pirates are 2-3 under coach Kim McNeill and have not been able to notch a win in three tries on the road.
