Get Ready For 2023 East Carolina Basketball
November 03, 2023 | Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
ECU Athletics and the Pirate Club are looking forward to welcoming fans to Minges Coliseum for the Pirates men's and women's basketball seasons. The men open the season on Monday, November 6 vs. Ferrum at 7 p.m. The Pirates women will host USC Upstate on Thursday, November 9 at 6 p.m.
Â
Gates open 90 minutes before tipoff for men's games and one hour for women's games. Make sure you are in your seat before tipoff to check out the new lights in Williams Arena this season.Â
Â
Several new fan enhancements were added for the 2023 season:
Â
Women's Basketball To Unveil Championship Banner
Prior to their home opener against USC Upstate on Nov. 9, the women's basketball team will be unveiling their 2023 American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship banner. Fans should plan on being in their seats by 5:30 p.m. for the presentation. The first 500 fans will receive replica championship banners.
Â
DJ To Be Stationed In Lower Level
Pirate Fans, after the success of the in-stadium DJ at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, we will bring that to Minges Coliseum for men's basketball and select women's basketball games as well. This will continue to create a positive experience for all fans in attendance this season. The in-stadium DJ will be located at the bottom of section 109.
Â
More Reserved Seating For Students
A major change for basketball games in 2023-24 will be an upgrade to the student experience to build a more "student-friendly" atmosphere inside Minges Coliseum. For students seated in the lower bowl, you can expect to have items in your seats that will help add to the environment of Minges Coliseum. These include items such as rally towels, pompoms, and balloons behind each basket.
Â
Following discussions with students, the entire southside lower bowl (Sections 102, 104-110) will be reserved for ECU students only (see graphic). The ECU Marching Pirates will continue to be located in Section 103. The overflow student section will be section 211. The reserved student section ensures that all seats in the southside lower bowl will be occupied by students.
Â
Students must have a VALID ECU 1CARD to receive their free student ticket and be admitted into Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
- Student seating is General Admission in the lower level of the coliseum in Sections 102-110. Once general admission tickets are unavailable, students will be located in reserved seats in Section 211.
- Student pickup can be done online or in person beginning 90 minutes prior to each game at the Minges Coliseum Box Office.
- Students must enter with their free student ticket and a valid ECU 1CARD at Gate 3.
- Student tickets are on a first-come, first serve basis.

All other students can claim their online student ticket beginning at 10 a.m. the day of each home game (this will be on Friday for any weekend game).
Â
New Premium Seats
Thanks to our generous donors to the Pirates Unite Campaign, bleachers on the northside lower level were completely removed and replaced with chairback seating. The reserved area includes 422 purple chairback seats. The area is sold out for all men's basketball games and limited inventory remains for women's games. This is going to be a terrific addition to the fan experience and allowed us to have additional premium seats.Â
Â
Charley's Kids Zone
Charley's Kids Zone will be located on the 2nd level of Minges Coliseum right outside section 213. Thanks to a generous gift from the Carl Rogers Family, the area is named in honor of Charley Swing. Charley's Kids Zone will be open two hours prior to tipoff.
Â
Head Coach Kim McNeill To Host Four Pregame Chalk Talks
Pirates women's basketball head coach Kim McNeill will host four pregame chalk talk sessions this season with Pirate fans to discuss the upcoming game. Coach McNeill will address fans in the women's basketball auxiliary practice gym one hour before tipoff on Dec. 2, Dec. 30, Jan. 20 and Feb. 10.
Â
New Lights
A new light system will debut this season inside Minges Coliseum. These new lights include colored lights that give us the ability to add new light shows that will be used throughout the game.
Â
Minges Coliseum To Be Cashless
In a move to improve the gameday experience, concessions at Minges Coliseum will be cashless. Aramark Sports + Entertainment will only accept credit cards, debit cards or Apple Pay/Google Pay to enhance efficiency. This is national trend at collegiate and professional sporting events. Cashless transactions reduce touch points and increase speed of service, improving the overall fan experience and getting fans back to their seats faster so they can enjoy the game.Â
Â
Alcohol
Beer and wine will be sold at select locations inside Minges Coliseum. Individuals consuming alcohol must always be able to produce a valid photo ID as stadium personnel may ask to see an ID at locations away from the original point of sale.
Two beverages may be purchased per person per transaction. Sales will begin 90 minutes prior to tipoff with all sales scheduled to end at the 10 minute remaining mark.
