
ECU Concludes Fourth Day At AAC Championships

DALLAS, Texas – The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team concluded day four of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday earning 124 points and currently sits in fifth place heading into Friday's action. The six-day event is being hosted by SMU at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr McMillon Natatorium.

Senior Polina Rukosuev finished 10th in the 500-yard freestyle (second in B-Finals) with a time of 4:54.32 and earning 17 points for the Pirates. Freshman Sadie Covington placed 13th (fifth B-Finals) with a time of 4:56.32 for 14 points, while freshman Emilee Hamblin finished 17th overall (first C-Finals) posting a time of 4:53.88 earning nine points.

Fellow senior Caitlin Reynera finished 11th (first B-Finals) in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.43 collecting 16 points. Sophomore Laura Kellberg finished ninth overall in the 50-yard freestyle (first B-Finals) posting a time of 23.23 for 20 points to lead the way for the Pirates in individual meets.

The 800-freestyle team of Hamblin, Rukosuev, Covington and freshman Heidi Bruining finished sixth after posting a time of 7:22.69 earning 48 points. In the 200-yard freestyle, ECU (Kellberg, Reynera, senior Randi Palandro and senior Brynna Wolfe) took sixth with a time 1:33.20 for an additional 48 points.

The Pirates return to the pool Friday, Feb. 17 starting at 11 a.m. (ET) with preliminaries before finals sessions in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard fly, 200-yard free, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke begin at 7 p.m. (ET) and can be seen on ESPN+.
