Pirates Earn 13 Seed, Travel to Texas for NCAA First Round

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team hosted a Selection Sunday watch party on Sunday evening in TowneBank Tower where they learned their NCAA Tournament fate. The Pirates will head to Austin, Texas to face the Texas Longhorns on March 18th for their First Round matchup.

The Pirates will be making their third-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after previous berths in 1982 and 2007. ECU also earned a 13 seed in that 2007 tournament when they fell to the eventual NCAA Runner-Up Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

East Carolina will be competing in the Seattle 4 bracket with Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds being played in Seattle, Wa. No. 5 Louisville will meet No. 12 Drake in Austin in the First Round opposite the Pirates and Longhorns.
The Pirates earned their spot in the Big Dance thanks to wins over #6 Tulane, #2 Memphis and #4 Houston in the American Athletic Conference Tournament, becoming the first non-one seed to ever win the tournament. The Pirates are 23-9 on the year, the program's most wins in a season since 2009-10.
