
Grosz Drafted In 11th Round By New York Yankees

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina RHP Josh Grosz was selected in the 11th round (pick 342) of the 2023 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Tuesday by the New York Yankees. He represents the 21st Pirate draft pick under head coach Cliff Godwin.

Grosz, a 2023 American Athletic Conference Second Team selection, started a team-high 16 games this season, compiling a 4-2 record, 3.66 earned run average and 79 strikeouts in 76.1 innings of work. He limited opposing hitters to a paltry .215 batting average and tallied four quality starts while notching multiple strikeouts in 14 contests.

Listed among the top prospects in the AAC by numerous publications, Grosz earned conference pitcher of the week accolades March 27, 2023, after tossing the first complete-game shutout for ECU since 2021 in a 5-0 victory over George Mason. He logged a career-long eight innings in the contest and struck out five while setting the Patriot side down in order in the fourth through seventh frames.

Grosz turned in several notable outings over the course of the 2023 campaign, including an 11-strikeout performance in six innings in East Carolina's 11-1 victory over Liberty. He also fanned five North Carolina hitters over a four-inning start in Chapel Hill, helping propel the Pirates to a 6-5 win over the 12th-ranked Tar Heels at Boshamer Stadium.

For his three-year career in the Purple and Gold, Grosz put together an 8-7 record with a 4.76 Era and 149 strikeouts in 145.2 innings.
