GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina emerged victorious in its lone exhibition test of the preseason, knocking off Elon 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-15) Thursday night inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

The Pirates and Phoenix played out the fourth and fifth sets after ECU clinched the contest, allowing several players on each side to receive some match experience.

Elon was selected to finish seventh of 12 teams in the Coastal Athletic Association. The American Athletic Conference preseason poll is set to be released Monday.

East Carolina officially opens the 2023 campaign in one week's time when it faces off with UNC Greensboro and Georgia Southern at the Bash in the Boro tournament in Statesboro, Ga.
