ECU Track & Field Set to Open Indoor Season at Hokie Invite

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track & field team is set to open its 2024 indoor season on Friday and Saturday at the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech in Rector Field House.

The Pirates' opener will feature several marquee events including the season openers for sprinters Royal Burris and Melicia Mouzzon who both set program records – Burris in the 200m and Mouzzon in the 100m – during the 2023 outdoor season, 2023 American Athletic Conference All-Conference shot putter Naadiya Faison, and the start of reigning AAC Long Jump Champion Jared Harrell's title defense.

"Both teams are extremely excited about kicking off our 2024 indoor track and field season," said Director of Track & Field Curt Kraft. "We have put a lot of hard work in throughout the entire fall season, so now we are ready to see what we can do with the first meet. The first meet is always a little nerve-wracking, because we are coming off a long Christmas break. There is always a lot of anxiety, nervousness, and excitement that comes with the first meet of the season. We are excited about both teams; that comes along with a lot of leadership and some great talented freshman. We will know what we must work on after this first track meet."
