
East Carolina Slips Up In 3-2 Setback At Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Despite holding a two sets to one lead and a late advantage in the fifth frame Friday night, East Carolina was not quite able to finish the job as Tulane rallied for a 3-2 (25-20, 15-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-13) American Athletic Conference victory inside Devlin Fieldhouse.

Fran McBride paced three Pirate (10-5, 3-2 AAC) hitters in doubles figures with a career-high 18 kills, six blocks and a .351 hitting percentage while Angeles Alderete logged a double-double of 15 kills and 12 digs. Ellie Pate also finished the evening with 10 kills and nine digs. Sami Jacobs notched 14 kills to pace the homestanding Green Wave (11-7, 3-3 AAC).

ECU held the upper hand in kills (56-49) but committed 28 attacking errors and 14 service errors. The sides combined for 21.0 total blocks and 155 digs in the five-set slugfest while hitting well under .200 each.

Tulane struck first, registering a 25-20 set one win before East Carolina responded with a resounding 25-15 triumph in the second stanza. The Pirates put themselves on the verge of victory with a 25-20 set three win but the Green Wave forced a deciding frame by taking the fourth set 25-18.

East Carolina looked to be in control, leading 12-7 in the decider. However, Tulane ended the match on an 8-1 run to steal the match away.
