
Gilreath Tabbed AAC Freshman Of The Week

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina setter Taryn Gilreath has been selected the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week according to an announcement by the league Monday afternoon.

The weekly honor marks the first of Gilreath's career and the first for a Pirate this season.

Gilreath played a key role in a 2-0 week for ECU, averaging 6.00 assists and 1.75 digs per set in wins over Temple and Wichita State. She put up 24 assists, seven digs and a kill in each match as the Pirates won their fifth-straight decision over Temple and defeated Wichita State for the first time in program history. East Carolina vaulted into a tie for third place in the AAC standings with eight contests remaining in the regular season.

Graduate student and right side hitter Fran McBride also earned recognition on the AAC Weekly Honorable Mention list. She logged 2.50 kills and 1.25 blocks per set in the victories over the Owls and Shockers while producing a stout .319 hitting percentage. McBride was one of four Pirates in double figures in the kill column against Wichita State, finishing the match with 15 kills, four blocks and a .414 offensive clip.
