
ECU Sweeps Tri-Meet At Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team improved to 7-1 on the season following sweep at the Georgia Southern Tri-Meet on Friday. The Pirates defeated Georgia Southern 208-91and beat UNC Asheville 206-93.

"It was good to grab two more wins on the season," ECU Head Coach Matthew Jabs said. "We are looking forward to the break from school, which will allow us to put 100 percent focus on the pool and get ready for the final stretch of the season."Â

On the day, ECU set two new pool records with Heidi Bruining in the 200-freestyle posting a time of 1:52.02 finishing three seconds ahead of Anna Marcotti of UNC Asheville. Bruining also captured top honors in the 100 freestyle (51.66) and 200 IM (2:05.58).

The 400-freestyle relay team, made up of Carlie Clements, Mikayla Durkin, Laura Kellberg and Bruining, set a pool record with a time of 3:29.62 finishing three seconds ahead of UNC Asheville. ECU's 200 medley relay A team finished first with a time of 1:46.04, while the B team placed third with a time of 1:47.99.

Frida Zuniga Guzman picked up four wins on the day claiming top diving honors in the 1-meter (275.45) and 3-meter dives (277.15) over Georgia Southern and UNC Asheville. Olivia Templeton (239.25) and Kinsley Baker (238.75) finished third and fourth in the 1-meter dive, while Baker took third in the 3-meter (234.05).

Sadie Covington (10:36.76) and Alyssa Heffelfinger (10:39.37) finished second and third in the 1000 freestyle, while Clements (1:55.98) and Sophie Benkusky (1:56.81) claimed third and fourth in the 200 free.

Laura Lopez (57.27) and Alayna Carlson (58.53) earned first and second place finishes in the 100 backstroke and Kaylee Hamblin won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.63. A trio of Pirates placed in the Top 4 of the 200 butterfly in Emilee Hamblin (second/2:05.03), Sara Kalawska (third/2:07.85) and Elena Dinehart (fourth/2:07.92).

Durkin (24.22) and Kellberg (24:58) finished second and third in the 50 freestyle, Dinehart (2:05.41), Clements (2:05.50) and Carlson (2:06.00) swept the top three spots in the 200 backstroke. Kaylee Hamblin won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.22 and Emilee Hamblin placed first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.20. Kalawska picked up the win in the 100 butterfly with posting a time of 57.03.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, Dec. 20 when the participate in the FAU Invite. The event is set to begin at 10 a.m. (ET) in Boca Raton, Fla.
