
McNeal Named American Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Danae McNeal has been named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4, the league announced Monday. The recognition is the second of the season for McNeal and the fifth of her career.

The Swansea, S.C. native continued her run of phenomenal play last week after having been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll three of the previous four weeks. McNeal averaged 20 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting a perfect 6-6 from the foul line for the week.

In the first game against Tulsa, the graduate guard led the team with 17 points and four assists in what ended up being a close and significant win for the Pirates. She followed that up with an efficient 23-point outing on 10-17 from the field to go with an impressive seven rebounds – the second most of her career, five assists and a trio of steals in the team's blowout win at Wichita State.

In addition to her work in the individual games, McNeal continues her climb in the program record books, moving up to 20th in ECU history with 1,117 points in Purple and Gold as well as tied for eighth in career steals at 192 (Danielle Charlesworth, 1992-96).
