ECU Conducts First Spring Scrimmage
March 30, 2024 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina conducted its first intra-squad scrimmage of the spring period Saturday morning inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium with all levels of the offense, defense and special teams. The workout, which was the eighth for the Pirates this spring, lasted approximately 90 minutes and went nearly 100 plays under sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 60's.
Â
"It was an exciting first day in the stadium from a scrimmage perspective," sixth year head coach Mike Houston said. "We went about 100 plays today with everybody getting work. There were a ton of positives but obviously there are things that we need to correct.
Â
"But I thought for the first scrimmage, the thing I was most pleased with we were not sloppy. Our execution was pretty good on both sides of the ball for the first time in a game situation. We really appreciate the officials and I thought they did a really good job today in keeping us going. There was a lot of enthusiasm and energy out there and big plays by both sides of the ball. It was a great way to cap off a really solid week."
Â
ECU returns to the Cliff Moore Practice Facility with workouts on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday before returning to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on April 6th for the second of three scrimmages. The Pirates will close out spring ball officially on Saturday, April 13th with the annual Purple-Gold Spring Game, which will begin at 1 p.m. (ET) inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Â
