ECU Indoor Track & Field 2024: By the Numbers
March 04, 2024 | Track & Field
The East Carolina track & field program wrapped up a strong 2024 indoor campaign last weekend at the American Athletic Conference Championships. Though the Pirates did not finish as high as they wished, there was individual success aplenty and throughout the season the team posted some results which will be remembered for years to come. Let's break it down, 2024 Indoor by the numbers:
41
The Pirates posted 41 podium finishes across the men's and women's squads across all events competed in this season. This includes six podium finishes, resulting in All-Conference honors at the AAC Indoor Championships.
15
The Pirates posted 15 event wins on the year, including Melicia Mouzzon's 60m title at the conference meet. Mouzzon's victory made her the first ECU woman to win a conference title in the event in program history.
32
The Pirates posted 32 new marks onto the program's all-time top 10 lists. This includes 17 results by the ECU men and 15 by the women.
3
The Pirates set three new program records. Royal Burris downed the men's 300-meter dash record with a time of 33.79 for the victory at the Hokie Invite. Melicia Mouzzon broke two records, both set for the final time at the AAC Championships, with her times of 7.27 seconds in the 60m and 23.38 in the 200m. Mouzzon broke the 200m record twice at the championship meet and despite holding the 60m record entering the season, she lowered the record further three times on the season.
Quotable
"Looking back at this past 2024 Indoor Track and field season, we accomplished a lot of goals," said Director of Track & Field Curt Kraft. "We had conference champions and set numerous personal bests throughout the season. As a coaching staff and as a team, you're never satisfied with your team finishes, knowing that we could always do better. We saw a lot of improvement across the board on both the men's side and the women's side as the season progressed. Probably one of the biggest things that I have been most excited about throughout the indoor season was how much passion and excitement that they competed with. Now we have to reset our goals as we approach the outdoor season, and hopefully improve on team finishes and continue to set school records and have conference champions."
