Pirates Complete Second Spring Scrimmage

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina completed its second intra-squad scrimmage of the spring Saturday morning inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium preparing for the annual Purple-Gold Spring Game, which will be held Saturday, April 13th at 1 p.m. (ET).
Â
Under sixth-year head coach Mike Houston, the Pirates scrimmaged for nearly 90 minutes working on all phases of the game with all levels of the offense, defense and special teams. The workout, which was the 12th of the spring, was conducted under sunny skies with temperatures in the 60's.
Â
"It was a great scrimmage today," Houston said. "That was as close to as a full ball game as we are going to get in probably before the opener. We did all phases of kicking today, we worked on some two-point conversion stuff today and had a lot of situations come up.
Â
"I thought the competition level was higher this week than last week, which I like that. I think on both sides of the ball, we improved on a lot of areas on both sides of the ball. We still had some self-inflicted errors, and we have to get rid of those, but sometimes that happens in the spring because you aren't practicing as much as you do in the fall. The kid's efforts were great and saw a lot to build on, so I was very pleased with the second scrimmage."
Â
ECU will close out its final week of workouts inside the Cliff Moore Practice Facility with practices on Tuesday and Thursday before returning to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium for the spring game. The 39th Annual Pigskin Pig-Out, sponsored by Piggly Wiggly, is set for April 12-13, 2024.
