SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Nyah Edwards kicked the meet off as the first member of the East Carolina track & field team to earn All-Conference honors on Saturday with her third-place finish in the women's hammer throw and Melicia Mouzzon downed her own program record in the prelim of the 200m to highlight day one of the 2024 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. In total, five Pirates put points on the board and three more advanced to finals in running events on Friday.

Edwards came into the meet with a 53.31m personal best in the hammer throw before she launched a throw of 56.45m on Friday. Four Pirates made the final of the hammer throw with Edwards being joined by Jocelyn Pringle, Grace Wills and Naadiya Faison. Pringle and Wills went on to finish in seventh and eighth to put three points on the board for the team.

Brock Lasure was the next Pirate to score on the afternoon, tossing a 50.37m hammer throw to take eighth in the meet. Lasure was followed up by Rebekah Bergquist who took seventh in the women's javelin with her toss of 42.95m.
