Pirate Trio Earns ABCA All-Atlantic Region Honors
June 11, 2024 | Baseball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina junior RHP Trey Yesavage has been tabbed to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region First Team while senior infielder Carter Cunningham and junior RHP Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman have earned Second Team designation according to an announcement by the ABCA Tuesday morning.
Â
Yesavage garnered all-region recognition for the second-straight season as he was named to the Atlantic Region Second Team in 2023.
Â
His junior campaign ended with a bevy of recognition as he was named the AAC Pitcher of the Year and a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy. As of the conclusion of the Super Regional round of the NCAA Baseball Championship, Yesavage slots second nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (4.73), third in both earned run average (2.03) and WHIP (0.87), fifth in strikeouts (145) and victories (11) and ninth in strikeouts per nine innings (13.98). He also tied the program single season record for strikeouts, matching Jake Agnos' 145 that he produced in 2019.
Â
Cunningham, the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist, led the Pirates in several categories, including batting average (.367), runs scored (77), hits (92) and home runs (17) while slotting 12th nationally in runs scored and 19th in hits. He was also one of three East Carolina players to start all 63 games this campaign. Cunningham was tabbed the AAC Player of the Week twice (Feb. 26 and April 29).
Â
Lunsford-Shenkman, also selected a finalist for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, was named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team and concluded the campaign with team-best marks in earned run average (1.55) and saves (five) while slotting second on the club in strikeouts (79). Opposing batters hit just .218 off him and he registered at least five strikeouts in seven outings – including a career-high eight in four scoreless innings versus Charlotte on April 13.
Â
The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 14 prior to the start of the 2024 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. First Team All-Region selections are eligible for All-America honors.
Â
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 19. ABCA/Rawlings National Pitchers and Position Players of the Year will be announced on Monday, June 24.
