Pirates Announce Hiring of Harris, Sneed
June 17, 2024 | Women's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team has announced the addition of Jason Harris as Assistant Coach and Aniyah Sneed as Director of Operations. Harris joins Head Coach Kim McNeill's staff after a stint with the Atlantic Collegiate Academy while Sneed comes to Minges from her previous position at ECU as Assistant Director for Premium Seating Operations and Special Events in the Pirate Club.
Â
Harris' addition to the Pirates coaching staff brings a breadth of knowledge and experience across men's and women's basketball from the prep to the college level. Prior to his most recent stop as the head coach of Atlantic Collegiate Academy, Harris served as an assistant coach on Nate James' staff at Austin Peay. Prior to that, Harris was an assistant coach on the women's staff at North Carolina Central where he also served as the program's recruiting coordinator.
Â
"I'm excited to welcome Jason to our family," said McNeill. " From the moment he stepped on campus, he showed that he really wanted to be here and that carried a lot of weight. Jason has experience at almost every level. His passion for player development was exactly what I was looking for. Jason will help to move this program forward both on and off the court."
Â
Prior to his time at the college level, Harris was a longtime coach in high school prep basketball, working at several institutions and earning Washington Cathlolic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year recognition in 2015 while with Bishop Ireton High School. In his time at the prep level, Harris mentored such players as Luc Mbah A Moute and Linas Kleiza who went on to NBA careers as well as numerous athletes who advanced to have successful collegiate careers.
Â
"I am very excited to join the East Carolina women's basketball Family," said Harris. "I want to thank Coach Kim for this opportunity. Her program has experienced a lot of success in recent years and I am eager to help build on that success and continue the winning tradition.
Â
A 2001 graduate of Fordham University with a degree in sociology, Harris was a two-time team captain for the Rams while earning 2001 A-10 All-Defensive Team honors. He went on to play professionally in France following his college career and in 2021 was named to the A-10 25th Anniversary Team.
Â
Sneed joins the women's basketball staff from the Pirate Club where she started in August 2023 as the Assistant Director for Premium Seating Operations and Special Events in the Pirate Club. In that role, Sneed managed premium seating areas such as TowneBank Tower during football season, and Courtside pregame and in-game hospitality areas during men's basketball games. In the off season, she helped plan and execute events such as Loyalty & Legacy, as well as the Football and Basketball Tipoff Luncheons.
"I'm so excited to announce the addition of Aniyah to our family," said McNeill. "Aniyah has a smile that will light up the room! Her work ethic and devotion to East Carolina and the Greenville community will be a great benefit to us."
Â
Sneed is a 2023 ECU graduate with a bachelor's degree in Sports Studies and a Minor in Psychology. She is currently in my second year of grad school at North Carolina Central University where she is obtaining her master's degree in athletic administration. A Greenville native, Sneed attended JH Rose High School where she currently serves as an assistant coach for the softball program.
"I am very excited to join the ECU women's basketball Family," said Sneed. "I look forward to connecting with the girls and coaches throughout this year, as well as remaining a part of Pirate Nation!"
