McMillan Set for NCAA Outdoor Championships
June 05, 2024 | Track & Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina Track & Field's Sydni McMillan is set to compete in the 100m hurdles at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field on Thursday.
McMillan is set to take the blocks at 9:32 p.m. ET on Thursday and, should she advance, she would compete again at 6:12 p.m. ET on Saturday. The top two athletes in each heat plus the next three fastest time advance to Saturday's finals. McMillan will be competing in the third heat on Thursday, taking the blocks in lane two.
The ECU senior has already had an historic season in 2024. She advanced to the NCAA Championships by way of a time qualifier at the NCAA East First Round meet two weeks ago. In that meet, McMillan downed her own program record with a time of 13.00 in the first round before running another remarkable time of 13.02 in the quarterfinal to punch her ticket to Eugene. McMillan is ECU's first NCAA Championships qualifier in the 100m hurdles.
Speaking of the program record, McMillan has lowered it by a whopping 0.31 seconds during the outdoor season and set the new mark on four separate occasions. One such occasion was her 13.06-second run at the American Athletic Conference Championships where she raced away from the field for the league title.
McMillan is the first Pirate competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2022 when Sommer Knight finished eighth in the nation in the pole vault.
