Pirates Slated To Compete In Boardwalk Battle

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina men's basketball team is slated to compete in the first edition of the Boardwalk Battle at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. from Nov. 21-23 as the tournament revealed the field and tournament schedule on Friday.

The format for the Boardwalk Battle will consist of an eight-team tournament with each team playing three games. The winners of the first-round games advance to the semifinals, while the losers move to the consolation bracket.

ECU is scheduled to face off against Jacksonville State in the opening round on Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m. for the fifth meeting between the two programs. It will be the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Pirates have participated in a multi-team event (MTE).

Joining the Pirates and the Gamecocks for the eight-team field will be James Madison, La Salle, Stetson, Toledo, UC San Diego and UIC. The tournament field features two teams that appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament (James Madison, Stetson) and four schools that won 20 or more games last season (James Madison, Stetson, Toledo, UC San Diego).
