
Morris Named To Wuerffel Trophy And AFCA Good Works Team Watch Lists

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – East Carolina defensive lineman Elijah Morris has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy and Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Watch Lists according to a joint announcement by both organizations Wednesday.

The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy honors a student-athlete who is inspired to serve others and make a positive impact on society. Together with the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team the awards mark college football's premier honors for community service.

A 2024 Preseason All-American Athletic Conference selection by Athlon Sports, Morris has played in 41 career games making 33 starts for the Pirates. He has recorded 86 career tackles (41 solo) while registering 13/5 TFLs (-60 yards) and 7.5 career sacks (-51 yards). Morris, a senior from Fayetteville, N.C., is credited with 10 quarterback hurries and has registered at least one tackle in 33 of 41 games (multiple 26 times).

Morris has been a key member of a defensive unit that over the last two seasons has stood among the NCAA FBS leaders (Top 40) in eight statistical categories which include first down defense yards (11th in 2023), fumbles recovered (40th in 2022; 16th in 2023), team tackles for loss average (17th in 2023), red zone defense (35th in 2022; 19th in 2023), rush defense average (19th in 2022; 29th in 2023), fourth down conversion (32nd in 2022), scoring defense (37th in 2023) and total defense (37th in 2023).

Off the field, Morris has been a team leader in the community logging over 200 service hours since 2022. He founded and organized the Team Boneyard Turkey Drive that benefited the Joy Soup Kitchen with 60 turkeys last Thanksgiving, while also working with the South Greenville Elementary Game Day Breakfast, South Greenville Elementary Field Day, Open Door Field Day, Hope Middle School Cookout, Pactolus Elementary School Read Across America, Kid Fest AMF Bowling Event and Koinonia Food Drive among others.
