Pirates Set For Bahamas Tour Next Week
July 26, 2024 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina Men's Basketball team is set to embark on its first-ever summer foreign tour as the Pirates will set sail for The Bahamas next week.
Â
The team is scheduled to depart for Nassau on Monday, July 29 and will return home on Friday, August 2.
Â
"This is an exciting time for everybody involved with our basketball program," head coach Michael Schwartz said. "We are very appreciative of our administration and longtime Pirate Club members Woody and Jennifer Tyner for allowing us to have this unique opportunity in The Bahamas. This is special trip for our young men who have an opportunity to bond as a group while playing a couple of games and getting a once in a lifetime experience."
Â
During the week, the Pirates will play two games against local Bahamian teams on July 30 and Aug. 1 while also participating in team building activities around the island.
Â
NCAA rules allow college basketball programs to take a foreign tour every four years where teams can play exhibition games abroad against international competition.
Â
The Pirates return seven players from last year's team, led by its returning leading scorer and All-AAC player in senior guard RJ Felton. ECU added nine new faces to the roster in the offseason comprised of six transfers (Julien Soumaoro, C.J. Walker, Jordan Riley, Yann Farell, Jayshayne Woodard, Trevion LaBeaux) and three freshmen (Ladontae Felton, Tybo Bailey, Reid Cason).
