ECU Conducts First Full Pad Practice
August 06, 2024 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Sixth-year head coach Mike Houston guided East Carolina through its sixth practice of fall camp and first in full pads Tuesday morning inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex.
Â
ECU also began its preparation efforts for the first of two scheduled scrimmages, the first of which is slated for Saturday morning at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Â
"It's your second-favorite day of the preseason, first day of full pads," Houston said. "I don't think the kids disappointed on either side of the ball. I thought we had good work today. We had three live periods. You guys saw the first one, then we had inside run in the middle of practice and finished with red zone where we put the ball on the 20 and played it out. Our team portion was game regulation where we moved the ball up and down the field. It was a lot of work today, but I really thought we competed well across the board and got some good stuff on film."
Â
With temperatures in the mid-80's under cloudy skies, the Pirates worked out for two hours working on all three phases of the game. Following the customary flex period, the offense and defense went against one another with all three levels getting two chances to score from three yards out with the offense scoring twice.
Â
After group sessions, the two sides of the ball faced off with an inside run drill, a positional one-on-one period, 15 minutes of skelly and capped off with a near 30-minute team segment.
Â
ECU will return to action Wednesday with an evening practice before consecutive morning sessions leading up to Saturday's scrimmage.
