
ECU Sweeps Quad-Meet At William & Mary

HAMPTON, Va. – The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team improved to 10-1 on the season following at sweep at the William & Mary Quad-Meet on Saturday. The Pirates earned wins over William & Mary (180-110), Old Dominion (229-61) and Central Connecticut State (225-74).

"This was a strong performance both in the pool and on the diving boards," ECU Head Coach Matthew Jabs said. "We were missing a handful of girls due to illness, and I thought we really stepped up today to overcome that obstacle. Today was a lot of fun and I am proud of the girls."

The trio of Emilee Hamblin (1:52.600), Heidi Bruining (1:53.37) and Sophie Benkusky (1:54.01) swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Kaylee Hamblin (2:16.77), Bruining (2:20.79) and Kratka (2:23.14) also took the first three positions. Carlie Clements (57.05), Laura Lopez (57.42) and Alayna Carlson (57.68) placed second, third and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.

Kaylee Hamblin (1:03.24/100-yard breaststroke), Sara Kalawska (2:07.13/200-yard butterfly), Mikayla Durkin (23.96/50-yard freestyle), Durkin (52.40/100-yard freestyle), Lopez (2:03.66/200-yard backstroke), Emilee Hambin (5:02.68/500-yard freestyle) and Bruining (2:05.69/200-yard IM) earned victories in their respective events.

ECU won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.04 and placed second in the 200-yard medley relay posting a time of 1:45.27.

In the diving well, Frida Zuniga Guzman took top honors in the 3-meter dive with a score of 279.60, while Oliva Templeton finished third at 244.88). Guzman also took first in the 1-meter dive tallying 30278 points while Templeton placed second with a score of 257.25.

ECU will return to action on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 when they host Liberty for Senior Weekend. Action on Friday begins at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Coach Jabs, his staff and student-athletes will recognize the seniors starting at 12:40 p.m. inside Minges Natatorium.
