Ufodiama & Spencer Sweep American Women's Track & Field Weekly Honors
January 28, 2025 | Track & Field
IRVING, Texas - East Carolina track & field's Kelly Ufodiama and Faith Spencer have been named the American Athletic Conference Women's Track and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Of particular note, this is just the second time since joining the American in which the Pirates have garnered two weekly recognitions in one week. The first time was two weeks ago. It is the first time the Pirates have swept the league's weekly women's honors.
Ufodiama earns her second Track Athlete of the Week nod of the season after another successful meet as the team competed at Clemson's Orange & Purple Invite. The freshman won the 200m with a time of 23.21 seconds, finishing triumphant against a 52-woman field which included gifted collegiate and professional sprinters alike. The Texan also earned a second-place finish in the 60m, dashing to a time of 7.31 seconds in the final after registering a 7.27 preliminary-round time which just missed out on her own program record of 7.26 seconds. That time, by the way, still ranks third in the NCAA this season.
For her part, Spencer had a breakthrough meet at Clemson as she competed in the triple jump. With a mark of 13.03m (42-9), the junior finished third in the meet but recorded the second-best mark in program history in the event, missing out on the record but just 0.02m. The mark vaults her to 22nd in the NCAA this season and represented a massive personal best of 0.80m.
Ufodiama, Spencer and the Pirates will be back in action on Friday and Saturday for a weekend of action at South Carolina for the Carolina Challenge and the Gamecock Challenge.
