Pirates Kick Off New Era at Clemson Invitational Saturday
January 09, 2025 | Track & Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track & field team is set to kick off its 2025 indoor season at the Clemson Invitational on Friday. The meet will be the first under the guidance of Director of Track & Field Virgil Givens.
Â
The Pirates will be looking to build upon some impressive individual results from the 2024 indoor campaign which saw three program records broken and six All-Conference performances. Additionally, the team posted 32 times and marks which ranked in the top 10 in program history in the respective events.
Â
Still, the program will look a great deal different this year with the departure of key athletes such as 2024 AAC Indoor 60m Champion Melicia Mouzzon, and of course the retirement of longtime coach Curt Kraft.
Â
Taking the helm is Givens who brings a championship pedigree from his tenure at Campbell in which he guided the Camels to their first ever conference title in 2022. He will look to bring the same success to ECU as the Pirates pursue their first league title since 2014.
