
Mazzie Named American Conference Special Teams Player Of The Week, Houser Earns Honor Roll Status

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina specialists Nick Mazzie has been named the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week according to an announcement by the conference Monday. Quarterback Katin Houser earned honorable mention honors as both helped the Pirates earn its second conference win of the season with a 41-27 victory over Tulsa.

Mazzie scored an ECU career-best 11 points connecting on a pair of field goals and five PATs, which extended him to 18 for 18 on the season. Mazzie opened the scoring with a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter, and he gave the Pirates a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, 34-24, with a 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Houser passed for 300 yards, the fifth of his career, completed 21 of 38 passes with two scores. The California native accounted for three touchdowns with passing scores of 66 and 63 yards to Anthony Smith and scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter. Houser connected on four passes for 15 or more yards (66, 30, 63, 18), while rushing for 22 yards and accounted for his 10th career rushing touchdown.

ECU, who observes its second off week of the year, returns to action on Saturday, November 1 at Temple. Kick off for the contest has not yet been determined by the league office.
