
Mazzie Named American Conference Special Teams Player Of The Week, Brown And Houser Earn Honor Roll Status

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina specialists Nick Mazzie has been named the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season according to an announcement by the conference Monday. Defensive Back TyMir Brown and quarterback Katin Houser have earned honorable mention honors as all three helped the Pirates to a 48-22 victory over Charlotte.

Mazzie scored an ECU career-best 12 points connecting on a pair of field goals and all six PATs, which tied his season-high. Mazzie made his first field goal of the day hitting a 40-yard in the third quarter and followed that with a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter for an ECU personal-best. On the season, he has made all 30 PATs and is 11 of 12 on FGAs (91.7 pct) and currently stands eighth in The American among all scorers with 7.88 points per game.

Brown picked earned his first career honor after picking off a Grayson Loftis pass in the first quarter returning it 45 yards for a touchdown (first career). The theft was ECU's fifth interceptions of the season and first for a score since Ja'Marley Riddle's pick-six against Temple in 2024 (55 yards). This year, Brown has recorded 14 tackles (12 solo) with one TFL (-4 yards) and a pass breakup.

Houser was named an honorable mention for the second time this year after completing 26 of 41 passes for 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed for a pair (1 yard/1Q, 11 yards/3Q) marking the second time in his career with two running scores in a game (other: NC State '24). In all, he accounted for four touchdowns on the day in the Pirate win over the 49ers helping ECU to bowl eligibility for the fourth time in the last five seasons. On the year, he has completed 208 of 213 passes with 14 touchdowns to five interceptions for 2,469 yards … He has rushed 111 yards on 61 attempts while scoring a team-best six touchdowns.

ECU returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 playing host to Memphis on ESPNU. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. (ET).
