Ufodiama & Pringle Sweep American Women's Track & Field Weekly Honors
February 18, 2025 | Track & Field
IRVING, Texas - East Carolina track & field's Kelly Ufodiama and Jocelyn Pringle have been named the American Athletic Conference's Women's Track and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Monday.
For Ufodiama, a freshman from Round Rock, Texas, this is the third weekly honor of her career already, the most ever in a single season by an ECU athlete. This particular honor comes after another record-breaking weekend in which she ran times of 7.20 over 60m and 22.76 over 200m at Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational, both program records. Her 22.76 represents a 0.62 second drop over the season from the prior program record and bests the American conference record which she already held. The time also ranks fifth in the NCAA this season while her 60m performance stands at ninth.
For Pringle, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., it is a first career weekly recognition and comes after becoming the fourth ECU thrower ever to break the 20-meter barrier in the weight throw with her toss of 20.36m at D1 Pre-Nationals. That mark moves her into 36th nationally and was good for a confident victory on the day. The mark is tops in the American this season entering championship weekend in just two weeks time.Â
This is now the second time this season, and the second time ever, in which the Pirates have swept the women's weekly honors after Ufodiama and Faith Spencer earned Athlete of the Week recognition on Jan. 28. It is also the third time ever, and third time this season, in which the Pirates have garnered any two weekly recognitions after Ufodiama and J Henry Lyon earned weekly nods on Jan. 14.
Ufodiama, Pringle and the Pirates will be back in action for postseason competition at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 28-March 1 in Birmingham, Ala.
